On Thursday, John Hufnagel and his staff will draw up a rotation for Saturday’s first Canadian Football League pre-season game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
This time of the year, however, is less about the game’s final score and more about internal competition and evaluation.
“I expect everybody that is healthy enough to play and has a grasp of our system will get an opportunity to show us what they can do,” said the Stamps boss on Wednesday after the team’s lone session of the day. “As always, the thought process and the format going into the pre-season game, we want to accomplish two objectives. Number one: get a good evaluation of players. And, number two, try and win the game.
“Winning the game does not trump the evaluation process.”
For the record, all CFL rosters must be reduced to 65 players by 11:59 (Eastern Time) on Sunday. By June 21, rosters have to be down to 46 active players (with a minimum of 20 non-imports).
EXTRA POINTS . . . OL Spencer Wilson took Wednesday morning off and is getting an MRI for a knee issue … also taking a day off were RB Jon Cornish, WR Anthony Parker, LB Deron Mayo, WR Joe West, OL Dan Federkeil, DL Junior Turner, LB Yannick Carter, RB Martell Mallett, and DL DeQuin Evans … OL Shane Bergman, WR Marquay McDaniel, and DL Micah Johnson returned to practice … the Stampeders added three imports to their roster on Wednesday: WR Jeremy Horne, DL Monte Simmons, and DB Torin Harris.
