Turns out the pictures told the story feared all along by the Calgary Stampeders.
Over the weekend, Micah Johnson, Demonte’ Bolden and Marquay McDaniel all went for MRIs to confirm the damage suffered Friday night in a 26-7 loss to the B.C. Lions.
Bolden, a starter at defensive tackle, sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Johnson, also a starter at defensive tackle, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. McDaniel, Calgary’s only receiver to eclipse the 1,000-yard marker, suffered a high ankle sprain.
None are expected to return in time for the 2013 playoffs.
And so the Stamps must reconstruct their defensive line – and find a replacement for their most dependable pass-catcher – with the West Division Final set for Nov. 17 at McMahon Stadium against either the Saskatchewan Roughriders or B.C. Lions.
Don’t be surprised if Earl Okine draws in off the practice roster to suit up for his first CFL game in the West Division Final. The University of Florida Gators product cuts an imposing figure at six-foot-six, 286 pounds, and could man the middle alongside Junior Turner and Etienne Legare.
At receiver, Jeff Fuller could move inside with Joe West and Maurice Price manning the wideout positions.
